About Fleet Management

Organization

Office of Fleet Management was created by Executive Order on June 10, 2002 and became operational on July 1, 2002. It centralizes responsibility for fleet management functions and manages the state’s fleet from initial acquisition through disposal.

Background

With an estimated fleet size of 21,000, the state of Georgia has one of the largest fleets in the country. This provides Office of Fleet Management the opportunity to initiate strategies to reduce operational costs.

Unified administration is the basis for effective fleet management. Over the last 26 years, numerous commissions, consultants, studies, and state agency reviewing teams have concluded that the state’s fleet management activities should be centralized. As we move forward with implementation, the office will provide additional policies and procedures to guide state entities.
